This 3 day course is a hands-on course for technicians that provides confidence in proper startup and commissioning practices on Ducted Systems commercial equipment and accessories through 50 tons.
Students gain a solid understanding in core competencies and how Ducted Systems commercial equipment is designed to function, providing a firm foundation for efficient troubleshooting. Certification is earned when all prerequisites are met and course classroom and lab sections are successfully completed including supervised startup during the lab portion of the course.

This fulfills the job requirement when ‘Factory Startup’ is needed. DOA labor warrranty extension to 6 months when completed startup form is submitted and approved. Building owners can be confident that properly commissioned equipment protects their investment in their commercial heating and air conditioning system, receiving reliable, efficient operation as intended from the factory.
Prerequisites: Startup & Commissioning Certification This course is delivered in English. A good understanding of the English language is required to attend, including reading and interpreting English and the ability to follow direction from the instructor in English. This is critical for student safety. This course is designed for service technicians. This course includes the use of traditional service and diagnostic tools on LIVE 460 volt equipment. Those that have not received prior instruction on basic service procedures such as digital multimeter usage should NOT consider attending this course. Requirements for earning certification as a Startup & Commissioning Technician include successfully passing the course along with the following items.
This certification is alid for three years.
Prerequisite: Courses completed online
Introduction to Psychrometrics (BTS-16117)
DS Solutions App Training (BTS-17865)
Verification of Certifications:
Section 608 EPA Certification for Refrigerant Handling (US only) and
One of the following Journeyman Competencies
Current UA Star certification
UA Serviceman
UA Journeyman licensure (or completed apprenticeship program)
current, state-issued Journeyman licensure
current Canadian Red Seal certification
NATE Heat Pump Service + NATE Air Distribution Service + NATE Gas Furnace Service
documented graduation from an accredited, full-time HVAC/R institution + 2 years of commercial HVAC/R technical employment
If you do not possess the certifications listed above, you may present a Section 608 EPA Certification and request a comprehensive exam covering fundamental HVAC concepts. To request an exam, please contact ductedacademy@jci.com.
All requirements MUST be submitted to ductedacademy@jci.com prior to your arrival.
Tuition includes lodging with daily transportation between the hotel and training center, safety glasses with PPE, course materials, breaks, and lunches.
